The Indian unit of currency is Indian Rupee, which is divided into
100 paise. Notes come in Re.1, Rs.2, Rs.5, Rs.10, Rs.20, Rs.50,
Rs.100 and Rs.500 denominations. Coins come in Paise 20, Paise 25,
Re.1, Rs.2 and Rs.5 denominations. All money should be exchanged
with authorised foreign exchange providers.

Americal Express, Citibank, Diner's Club, Mastercard and Visa are
generally accepted by major hotels, restaurants, shops and airlines.

Most of the nationalised banks are open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm from
Monday to Friday and from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturdays. Private
banks are open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. All
major nationalised and private banks have ATM facility.
Most Indian banks do not cash a personal cheque unless your account
is held with that bank, and large city banks are the only banks
equipped to exchange foreign currencies. It is best, therefore, to
rely on credit cards, ATMs and travellers cheques to handle expenses
during your stay.
